Greenpoint Open Studios is pleased to announce a scintillating weekend celebrating a thriving arts community steadily growing in Greenpoint. This collaborative effort brings artists, performers, musicians, galleries, and local businesses together to build and foster a platform for creative and cultural exchange. GOS is inspired by the wealth of creativity prevalent in each artist’s studio and gallery and hopes to bring the community together to build relationships, harness ideas, and most importantly, have some fun!

Join us for a weekend where all members of the public can visit nearly a hundred artists at their studios, view exhibitions of participating artists in four local galleries, experience an evening with video screenings and dance performances at Transmitter Park, attend artist talks, and celebrate with drinks and revelry at local bars!

August 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Hello GOS fans and participants!

I hope this finds you well!

My name is Joann and I am putting together Greenpoint Open Studios, a weekend where artists working in the Greenpoint region open their studios throughout the weekend for the public to visit, engage, network and harness a community. Accompanying events will include an evening of screenings and performances at Transmitter Park on Greenpoint Ave, group shows as nearby art galleries with openings and artist talks, and afterparties at bars and venues.

We have $0 budget and need help raising funds to follow through with the weekend of festivities. Coco66 has opened their doors to GOS and will be hosting a Fundraiser Sept 3rd starting at 9pm.

WE NEED YOUR HELP. If you can offer donated services as a band, or as a business, or as an individual donor please email us. Please also forward this call to anyone you might think is available.

WE NEED:

- Bands to be scheduled 9-1am

- DJ from 1am onwards

- Businesses donating discounts, gift certificates, or physical goods

- Volunteers to help flier, advertise, and set up

The fundraiser will be next Thursday so there isn’t much time. If would like to participate in any fashion, please send an email to greenpointopenstudios@gmail.com

Thank you!

FEAST Aug 8th

GOS has handed in a proposal to FEAST to help fund the event. FEAST is an acronym for Funding Emergin Art with Sustainable Tactics and is held at Church of Messiah in Greenpoint. It’s a public dinner where guests pay a sliding scale fee and after eating vote on an artist’s proposal. The winner receives a bag of cash and will present the outcome of their project at the next dinner. If GOS wins this Saturday, funds will go towards all forms of development from fliers, postcards, equipment, napkins, cups, markers, everything. Otherwise it is coming out of the organizer’s shortsighted pockets. You wouldn’t want that now would you?

So please come this Saturday to the dinner and vote for GOS.

CALL FOR ARTISTS, VOLUNTEERS AND SPONSORS!

July 27, 2009 · 2 Comments

Greenpoint Open Studios: September 25-27, 2009

Greenpoint Open Studios is a weekend long event celebrating a burgeoning art scene in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. It is a collaborative effort between artists, organizations, businesses and volunteers to build a creative platform in which all members of the community can foster and contribute to a support system that encourages the sharing of ideas and relationships. As artist studios and exhibition spaces continue to emerge in the neighborhood we hope to facilitate the growth of a thriving art community.

We are currently registering artists interested in participating in the event. All forms and mediums of creative practice are welcomed and everyone is encouraged to organize activities or assist throughout the weekend. There are no set guidelines other than to make the space available during event hours. We are also looking for local businesses and donors to aid in covering costs of the event from fliers and postcards to napkins and bags of ice. Volunteers are the feeding backbone of GOS and we’ll need all the organizational help possible from logo design and blog maintenance to promotional distribution and bartending.

If you’d like to be a participating artist, sponsor, donor or volunteer for the event, or have any questions send us an email at greenpointopenstudios@gmail.com. Until then, please check the blog for updated information and details!
Thank you!
